If u had a number like 23KM, you would have to multiply it by 1000 but if the number is  23M than you would have to divide it by a thousand to get your kilometers.
To change km into m you must multiply by 1000
The word 'kilo' means 1000
Think of km as k x m (1000 x m)
1 km = 1000m
9 km = 9000m
