The store is considered a satire because it presents the rural American society and shows what their values are. For example, it shows the alcoholic people who sit in front of the local shops and drink and talk about politics and he exclaims that these men are wise and their stories are wisdom but they aren't. It satirizes the behavior of the people and the society.
