The answer to this question is alarm and resistance. Hans Selye described three stages -- alarm, resistance, and exhaustion stages -- which the body goes through when under stress called general adaptation syndrome (GAS). The first stage, the alarm stage, provides the body with a burst of energy while the second, the resistance stage, the body attempts to resist or adapt to the stressor; and the energy gets depleted in the final stage. The phrase "getting over the shock" in the first line seems to suggest "fight-or-flight” response, which is a physiological response to stress. And then she "actively search for a new job" which seems to imply that the body has resisted/gotten over the stress and has begun to repair itself.
