The first step is to multiply the "6X" by what is inside the brackets. This gives you 78X - 36X = 7²
7²= 7X7 = 49
Next simplify the equation 78X-36X= 42X
So 42X = 49
Divide both sides by 42 to get X= 1.1666666...
(The 6 is recurring)
