Writing a line equation using two points:
- two points of (x,y) are sufficient to form straight line equation
- Select the easiest points which contain simple coordinates of x and y that you feel they could result simple substitution in the equation form
Our two points are (0,3) and (-6,0)
The slope is:[tex]slope=m= \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} = \frac{0-3}{-6-0} = \frac{1}{2} [/tex]
[tex]y - y_1 = m (x - x_1)\\~\\y-3= \frac{1}{2} (x-0)\\~\\y-3=\frac{1}{2}x[/tex]
Therefore, we can write:
[tex]y= \frac{1}{2} x+3[/tex]
This is the slope-intercept form of your line.
