The height of a triangle is 4 more than the base, and the area of the triangle is 6 square units. Find the length of the base. Let x = the length of the base.

[x(x+4)]/2=6                (as (b*h)/2=A)
x*x + 4*x -12 = 0

[tex]x = -b+- \sqrt{ b^{2}-4ac }/2a [/tex]         

so, x = 2 units(as -6 is negative)
