Note any frequent swallowing is more important while instructing discharge home after tonsilectomy and adenoidectomy.

Tonsils are the small, round pieces of tissues located at the back of the mouth on both sides. Adenoids are the similar structures present behind the nasal cavity. The surgical removal of tonsils is known as tonsillectomy and the surgical removal of adenoids is known as adenoidectomy.

Tonsils and adenoids are often removed simultaneously through surgical procedures and are therefore referred to as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy or T & A. The reason for the surgical process is the swelling up of these structures which causes the associated infections.

The most common complication of T & A includes bleeding from the mouth. This needs intense care. You may be advised to increase your fluid intake and minimize solid food intake. However, if any frequent swallowing creates a problem, you may be asked to visit the doctor for a check-up.
