Equal Protection Clause of the constitution connects the cases of Gill v. Whitford (2018) and Shaw V. Reno (1993).

In Gill v. Whitford case they were granting request to put the remapping action of districts on hold. It was first time that supreme court has evaluated the long tradition of Gerrymandering in U.S. on first amendment's freedom of association clause in addition to equal protection clause.

Shaw v. Reno court case was the result of Voting Rights Act of 1965 in which there was more representation of Blacks who were in minority in state of North Caroline. They claimed that the drawing of districts based on race lead to violation of equal protection clause.
