What was Reconstruction?

Reconstruction marked the period after the American Civil War, between 1865 to 1877, when the United States achieved:

Though Reconstruction took much more time than the above period to achieve its total success but it gave impetus to the Civil Rights Movement, which consolidated the rights of African Americans.
