Penny had a bag of marbles. She gave one-third of them to Rebecca, and then one-fourth of
the remaining marbles to John. Penny then had 24 marbles left in the bag. How many marbles were
in the bag to start with?

x - (x/3 + x/4) = 24

12x/12 - (4x / 12 + 3x / 12) = 24

5x/12 = 24

5x = 24 x 12

5x = 288

x = 57 or 58
