Need to calculate the width of the rectangle.
Formula for perimeter of rectangle is as follows
Perimeter of rectangle = 2 ( length of rectangle + width of rectangle )
Let assume width of rectangle be represented by x.
On substituting given values of perimeter and length and assumed value of width in formula of perimeter we get ,
38 = 2 ( 14 + x )
Solving above equation for x we get
38 = 28 + 2x
=> 38 – 28 = 2x [subtraction is used]
=> 10 = 2x [division is used]
=> x =5
Width of rectangle = x = 5 inches.
